In the spring of 2020, I had the absolute privilege of working as Design Director for the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication’s award-winning capstone publication, Flux Magazine. Alongside Art Director Grace Levy, I virtually led a team of eight lovely designers in creating an 86-page magazine over Zoom. Flux 2020 was honored with several Gold Circle awards from CSPA. the process

This was an unprecedented year for Flux in a number of ways. The most obvious difference was navigating the Coronavirus pandemic. We’d just begun our stylebook when our state went into lockdown and our team moved all across the country. We ended up accomplishing the entire process virtually, through the help of Zoom and Slack. It was a trial by fire, but we more than made it work. We ended up producing the largest edition of Flux to date, with a special section devoted to COVID-19 coverage, plus this was the first issue of Flux with perfect binding. 2020 was a landmark year, and we wanted to make sure this was a landmark issue; something to last a lifetime.
